What’s your place of refuge?

Sadness, cold (physical and figurative), even great joy can spark a need to go within, to take refuge in our own self—our resources, our sense of peace, our calm.

We need a place of calm and serenity to rest…and then to renew ourself.

Although, like many other things, rest and renewal don’t occur in linear fashion, one after the other.  Instead, we make a commitment to ourself to pause.  And in that pause, we experience many things simultaneously.

Why not let these experiences wash over and through us, like a bath, a shower, an inner and outer cascade of warmth and solace, comfort and tranquility?

Our refuge.

Where do you find or feel free to create YOUR refuge?

I take refuge in my yoga practice and in teaching/sharing yoga with others.

The woods near my home inspire comfort, inspire joy, inspire peace…refuge.

Sitting quietly, with one hand on my beautiful golden retriever Hera reminds me of how lovely love can feel.  Refuge.

We can make our refuge anywhere we are at any time by taking a slow, long, even, deep breath in and feeling and focusing on the feeling of the breath brushing against the nostrils as it enters our body.  And feeling and focusing on the feeling of the breath brushing against the nostrils as it exits our body.

Peace…Tranquility…Calm…Serenity…

are with you

are within you
