By The Light…of the Silvery Moon
By the Light of the Silvery Moon…
The Moon
has many phases.
She is unique
each time we see her.
For thousands of human years,
the Full Moon—
where we see her at her brightest and whole-est self—
has been considered
an ideal time for releasing…
things, people, thoughts, ideas, feelings, unconscious habits…
People around the world
revered the Moon Goddess
for her cycles affecting fertility and agriculture,
for example.
And people around the world
have noted that we humans
tend to respond to the energy of the Full Moon
by feeling and acting a little…
crazy.
(The word lunatic evolved from meaning “moonstruck”
and “periodic insanity dependent on the changes of the moon”—
from English Language and Usage—to meaning crazy.)
We celebrate the Full Moon
in myriad ways.
And whether or not you agree with or subscribe to anything mystical
or magical about the Full Moon,
it’s always a good practice
to regularly grant yourself time to
set, revisit, reset intentions for your life.
“Intention” gives direction to our awareness.
Where we put our attention
is where we go.
So on THIS Full Moon,
perhaps you’d like to join me in one or several of these loving-yourself rituals.
(And a ritual imbues the action and actor with sacredness. You can make anything
a ritual and I encourage you to do so!)
I’m going to start with what came to me only today:
Ask the Moon for her help in each of these things. Starting here allows you to receive help from all sides. Ask the Moon for her help.
Write a list of what you want to release, let go of…and then burn the list. Fire is very transformative.
Take an epsom salt bath (maybe add lavender essential oil?) to help your body-mind-spirit release toxins and tension from the muscles (as well as the things from your list). When you’re finished with the bath, watch the water drain and see all that you wanted to release go down the drain.
Finish something you started. It could be a very small thing like sweeping the kitchen floor or putting Christmas away or dusting furniture in one room.
And speaking of that floor, since the Moon is at her brightest, where she can illuminate all manner of things, how about sweeping the floor and saying out loud, “My path is clear; I see my next steps.”
The Full Moon’s light can show us just how much we have to be grateful for, so, follow with me in my father’s footsteps. For my whole life with him, I remember him waking up every morning and saying, “Thank you.” Just say, “Thank you.” Meister Eckhardt wrote that if the only prayer you ever say is, ‘thank you,’ it will be enough.
Choose one. Choose many. Choose all.
Make up your own ritual of letting go,
of seeing things in their full light, as they are and not as we might wish them to be..
Love yourself.
That’s really what all of this is meant to be for you…
signs of loving yourself.
Blessings,
Paula.
