Your Words Are Magic

I hear your voice.

If we have spoken—ever—

I have stored the sounds of your voice

in my heart and mind.

When I read what you have written,

I hear your voice

speaking the words.

Your words can contradict

your voice

and vice versa.

Your words can lead

us to a world

that we seek

and to a world

that we don’t want.

Your intention as you type

permeates your words

and crosses the miles

and cyberspace.

I FEEL your words

across and into my heart.

Everyone does.

Some are more aware than others;

some others, not at all aware.

With and without your conscious awareness,

your words carry

the messages

held deep in your heart.

Are you aware

of the fear your words throw at people

when you speak

angry words,

hostile words,

threatening words?

You may not have considered…

Are you aware

of the menacing nature

of words like,

“While we still can…?”

“…while there’s still a dream to stand up for…”

“before we can’t…”

“before we’re not allowed to…”

???

Do you understand

the throngs of asking-for-what-you-don’t-want

dripping from your statements

that “we must act before we can’t?”

from calling people, any people, deplorable?

from minimizing others’ concerns because they don’t fit yours?

from smirking at someone’s worries?

from laughing at anything that someone says or does?

Would you speak your truths in this way

if you were aware

while you were speaking them

of the impact of their syntax

and their tone

and their magic

not only on the person(s) listening/reading,

but on the world?

your world?

our world?

I believe that we humans don’t know…

until and unless we choose to.

I believe that we aren’t aware.

I believe that if we heard/read

our words through the other person’s ears and eyes,

we would choose differently.

I believe that if we trusted ourself more,

we’d be more aware and that we would choose

with greater care

how we expressed ourself,

which words we use,

how we put them together.

We are human.

What chances do we have to change the narrative?

We have our words.

Words are powerful magic.

They shift our brain into looking for

what we speak about.

And we speak about what we seek.

What DO we seek?

We repeat certain words and phrases

and they create for us

the truths-to-come.

It’s one thing,

an essential thing,

to acknowledge and express our fears.

It’s quite another,

equally essential,

that we sift through this awareness

and focus on

what we desire to create,

to have,

to be.

Implicit in phrases like,

“while we still can…”

is this truth:

We’re afraid there will come a time

when we will not be able to.

And this fear, because it’s yours,

is so valuable

and yes, valid.

And yet,

we say these words…

automatically, habitually,

without considering that

we create our world with our words.

When you speak words aloud,

you breathe life into them.

When you write words,

you make the life in those words

real.

So I invite you

to ask yourself;
What do I want to create with my words?

Are my underlying intentions…

  • to rally people to my side?

  • to shower them with love?

  • to instill fear so that they’ll do what I feel they should do?

  • to persuade?

  • to cajole?

  • to share a piece of yourself?

  • to light up someone’s heart?

  • to soothe/calm?

  • to incite?

  • to stir up?

Look.

Deeper.

Look around the corner.

Ferret through your life’s experiences

and you MAY find another answer than the one that

comes readily and quickly and easily to your lips,

to your pen,

to your typing fingers.

Your answers to these questions

and what you do with them,

how you shift your words…

shift how you see the world,

how the world responds,

what you experience,

what you create.

“Think before you speak.”

“Words spoken from the heart, enter the heart.”

“From your lips to God’s ears.”

Your words.

Your voice.

You are powerful beyond your immediate knowing.

Which world do you want?

For yourself?

For all of us?

Words matter. Your words are magic.

How we put them together matters.

How we put them out into the world matters.

Because YOU matter. Because YOU are magic.

Because WE matter. Because we are magic.

All of us.

Blessings,

Paula.

p.s. The image is from Brian Andreas. Now is a very good time to imagine how you want to be…and may I add…”How you want the world to be…and to speak THIS truth?
