How to practice fearlessness…
I'd like to share a practice with you.
Have a seat.
Check in: how and what are you feeling—physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually—and where in the body are you feeling this?
Today, I offer you two versions of the Fearlessness mudra.
A Mudra is a gesture, usually of the hands, but sometimes of other body parts. A mudra is believed to organize the cells of the body to welcome, create or cultivate a desired consciousness, emotion, ….
Choose the one that feels better in your hands. Choose the one that is EASIER.
Version one: Touch the thumb of each hands to its respective index, middle, and ring fingers. Let the pinky finger of each hand stay straight and not touching anything else. Relax your hands on your thighs.
Version two: Hands in front of your chest. Cross your right wrist over your left so that the backs (tops) of the hands face each other. Intertwine the index fingers, the middle fingers and the pinky fingers. Touch the right ring finger and thumb and the left ring finger and thumb. (Photo at bottom of this email.)
Sit with your hands in your chosen position for as long as you can. And when it gets tiring, see if you can soften somewhere to keep going. If it’s still too much, relax your hands on your lap.
Why fearlessness today?
A LOT is assaulting our nervous systems. Some of it over time. Some of it current. Our nervous system needs tender loving care to soothe and comfort it. Always. Our nervous system is a gift that has kept our species alive. And we need to tend to it so that it can function optimally for us and with us.
Fearlessness is not the absence of fear. Fearlessness is a practice. It’s a practice of focusing more on your faith—whatever you want to have faith in—instead of your fears.
As you read in my email the other day, all these years of practicing helped me NOT collapse into a pool of tears when I was refused entry to France to lead my retreat...
Today, my intention is always to hold a safe space for each of you who reads my emails, who comes to my yoga classes, who hires me to coach, who participates in my workshops, or who joins my retreats.
My intention is to hold a safe space for all.
"All of you" is welcome. "All of you" is safe with me.
MY intention today is to help you find ONE thing that soothes your body-mind-spirit in your poses, one thing that you can take with you to bring ease to your bus every day for the next month.
What’s YOUR intention for today?
What one thing do you want to be feeling at the end of this practice of sitting with your hands in a fearlessness mudra?
I invite you to hold YOUR intention in your heart and to let mine play as background music.
And I offer you Reiki energy—the spirit and practice of the highest form of universal love. Let it descend unto and enter into your heart if you’d like to receive it.
Feel the sensations of your breath.
Feel more rather than less.
NOT as in push yourself to your limits.
RATHER, feel more as in be aware of the sensations throughout your body.
Breathe here, in and out, for as long as you'd like.
We are complete.
May your day be rich with love.
Blessings,
Paula.
